Landmarks — practise the geography puzzle with famous places

What the Landmarks mode is

The daily puzzle, restricted to landmarks: World Heritage sites, monuments, mountains, ancient cities. A landmark speaks about itself in first person, gives up to five clues, and you name it in up to six guesses. As many rounds as you like, each with a random landmark from the pool.

Naming the country or the city a landmark stands in is not enough; the answer is the landmark itself, under its common name in either language. As in the daily puzzle, a wrong guess costs 5 points and a revealed clue 10 or 15.

How practice differs from the daily puzzle

The daily puzzle is one place for everyone, once a day, with a streak, a comparison with other players and an archive page afterwards. Practice modes have none of that on purpose: they keep their own small statistics in your browser, they never touch your daily streak, and they do not count towards the comparison.

Practice draws from the same pool of places as the daily puzzle, but leaves out today's puzzle and everything scheduled for the next two weeks. A place you practise today can therefore appear as the daily puzzle at some later date; a place scheduled for the near future cannot appear in practice.

Questions and answers

Does practice affect my daily streak?
No. Each practice mode keeps its own statistics in your browser: rounds played, win rate and a streak of consecutive wins within that mode. The daily streak only changes with the daily puzzle.
Can I get the same place twice?
Not until you have seen every place in the category. Your browser remembers which puzzles you have played in each mode; once the pool is used up, it starts over in a new order and says so.
Why can I not ask questions in practice?
Asking the place questions is what makes the daily puzzle special, and every answer is a call to a language model that costs money. Practice is meant to be played in quantity, so it keeps to clues and guesses.
